Earth-tones and disco balls for this Arrowhead Hill couple

Abby + Thomas | May 2022

Abby & Thomas’ wedding day at Arrowhead Hill will forever be a special one to me and I will never forget how peaceful and intentional it was. As a couple, Abby & Thomas are such joyful, down-to-earth, fun people — which was truly reflected through every detail of the day. I cannot wait to share this earth-toned, spring wedding with you all.

No better location could serve as the backdrop for this wedding day. I have raved about Arrowhead Hill before, and I will do it again. Not only is this space so beautifully designed and intentionally thought out, but it’s a family affair at heart, which is what I think truly sets it apart in the Houston market. The owners, Donna & John Whittleman, put so much care into the way they serve their couples, and it shows in every interaction. When ‘being surrounded by your favorite people to celebrate the start of your forever’ is at the heart of your wedding planning process, this venue ends up being an easy decision and a perfect fit. I think Abby & Thomas found this to be entirely true in their planning process.

What I loved about planning and designing this wedding day alongside the bride, is that we took an earth-tone color palette (which often equates to a more boho-inspired design or a fall wedding vibe) and instead, adapted it to the spring season. We did this by layering various tones and textures, as well as through the garden style floral pieces. I never believe in perfectly matching anything. Like for example: I wouldn’t take a paint swatch and try to color match every element within the design. Instead, we want the colors to “play well” together, which we can do by identifying our more dominant colors within the palette, and then complimenting them with other tones that align with the design but bring variation visually. What this achieves is a more effortlessly curated aesthetic. And then within this design, we added tons of disco balls alongside the joyful floral palette, which really reflected Abby & Thomas’ joyful, sunshine spirits.

One other design detail to mention was our use of floral meadow pieces in various spots throughout the design. For those that may not know what these are, they are floral pieces that are designing in low profile dishes (that you cannot see) and are arrangements that look like they are growing out of the ground (especially since they are typically more whimsical in shape!) Nothing about Abby & Thomas’ floral design was too manicured, so these pieces really kept with the organic and whimsical feel of the day. They also have the ability to extend your floral budget as the pieces are so mobile and can be used in any number of places. For this event, we incorporated them in front of the welcome table, the seating chart display, and around the cake table. Add in the disco balls, and it really took these pieces to another level!

This wedding day was truly one of those pinch-me moments. I always say to my couples that their wedding days should be far more beautiful than any design board or picture on paper could convey — and that was the case tenfold when all our planning and design work came together. I couldn’t be more thrilled for the Shermans and will forever love their special day!
